In einer von einem Flu\u00df durchzogenen Landschaft sind der Erzengel Raphael und Tobias zu sehen. Der junge Tobias kniet am Boden und hat einen Fisch gefangen. Der hinter ihm sich befindende Erzengel h\u00e4lt sch\u00fctzend seine rechte Hand \u00fcber ihn. Rechts steht der Schutzengel, links die drei als Heiratsvermittler verehrten M\u00e4rtyrer Samonas, Gurias und Abibo von Edessa. Oben ist der segnende Gott-Vater dargestellt.<\/p>\n
Die Ikone zeigt ein sehr selten gemaltes Motiv, welches auf eine Schilderung im apokryphen Buch Tobit des Alten Testaments zur\u00fcckgeht. Raphael erscheint hier als hilfreicher Reisebegleiter und Heiler, welcher dem jungen Tobias r\u00e4t, einen ihn angreifenden Fisch zu fangen und seine Innereien herauszunehmen, um sp\u00e4ter damit seinen Vater zu heilen. Die drei M\u00e4rtyrer und der Schutzengel sind nicht, wie sonst \u00fcblich, auf den Rand gemalt, sondern in das Bildfeld integriert worden. Eine identische Ikone ist im Ausstellungskatalog des Ikonen-Museums Recklinghausen, Pforte des Himmels, S. 153 abgebildet.<\/p>\n

At the right side the Guardian Angel is shown, at the left the three martyrs Gurias, Samon and Habib of Edessa, who are venerated as heavenly patrons of honourable marriage. Above God-Father is blessing.<\/span><\/p>\n The icon presents a very rare painted motif, which refers to the apocryphal Old Testament book of Tobit. Raphael appears as a helpful chaperon and healer, who advises the young Tobias to catch a fish and take the innards to heal later on his father. The three martyrs and the Guardian Angel arn’t part of the motif, usually they would have been painted at the frame.
