Aus den Wolken -links oben- beugt sich ein Engel zu ihr und erregt ihre Aufmerksamkeit. Das sehr seltene, auch „Verk\u00fcndigung am Brunnen“ genannte Motiv gr\u00fcndet sich auf das in der Mitte des 2. Jh. verfasste Protoevangelium des Jakobus, welches ausf\u00fchrlich \u00fcber die Herkunft der Gottesmutter und ihre Kindheit berichtet. Kirchlich wurde das Protoevangelium zwar nicht in den Kanon des Neuen Testaments aufgenommen, doch vor allem in den Ostkirchen war es sehr popul\u00e4r und beeinflu\u00dfte den Inhalt liturgischer Texte. Auf der Ikone ist die im 11. Kapitel beschriebene Begebenheit zu sehen: \u201eUnd Maria nahm einen Krug und ging hinaus um Wasser zu sch\u00f6pfen. Und siehe, eine Stimme sagte zu ihr: Sei gegr\u00fc\u00dft, du Begnadete. Der Herr ist mit dir. Gesegnet bist du unter den Frauen. Und sie blickte herum nach rechts und nach links, woher sie sei die Stimme. Und voller Furcht ging sie hinein in ihr Haus.\u201c<\/p>\n
In the centre of the icon stands the young Mary in front of a landscape. She is fetching water out of a well. An angel, who is depicted above on the left side, calls her attention. The very rare subject, also called „Annunciation at the well“, is based on the Protoevangelium of James, a non-canonical gospel of the 2nd century, which is very popular in the orthodox Churches. In chapter 11 the scenes is described:\u00a0„And she took the pitcher, and went out to fill it with water. And, behold, a voice saying: Hail, thou who hast received grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women! And she looked round, on the right hand and on the left, to see whence this voice came.
