Die Betrachtung des Leidens Jesu -auf der Ikone veranschaulicht durch die betende und in sich gekehrte Gottesmutter, die seitlich von ihr abgebildete Kreuzigung Jesu und die vor ihr aufgereihten Instrumente der Passion- ist ein Charakteristikum westlicher Fr\u00f6mmigkeit. Dem orthodoxen Gl\u00e4ubigen ist diese Leidensmystik eher fremd, da in der ostkirchlichen Glaubensverk\u00fcndigung die \u00f6sterliche Frohbotschaft der Auferstehung im Vordergrund steht. Es verwundert daher nicht, da\u00df abendl\u00e4ndische Darstellungen der Muttergottes mit einem Kreuz in der Hand die Vorlage f\u00fcr die Ikone dieser Passions-Muttergottes waren. Die russischen Ikonen dieses Sujets gehen auf ein Wunder zur\u00fcck, welches sich 1739 vor einer in dieser Form gemalten Gottesmutterikone zu Achtyrka ereignet hat. In der Folgezeit wurden im Russischen Reich gelegentlich Ikonen der Achtyrskaja gemalt.<\/p>\n

The meditation about the sufferings of Christ -at the icon demonstrated through the praying and meditating Mother of God, the painted Crucifixion of Christ beside her and the instruments of the passion before her- is characteristic for the western religiousness. This mysticism is rather uncommon for orthodox believers, because the eastern piety emphasizes the paschal message of the resurrection. It is not amazing that occidental pictures of the Mother of God with a cross in her hand had been the model for this Madonna of the Passion. The russian icons of this motif are based on a miracle which happened in 1739 in front of an icon of the Mother of God in Achtyrka.
