Ein seltenes Ikonenmotiv sind die neun M\u00e4rtyrer von Kyzikos, welche zwischen 284 und 294 in Kyzikos auf einer Halbinsel am S\u00fcdufer des Marmarameeres aufgrund ihres christlichen Glaubens umgebracht\u00a0 wurden. Obwohl diese Gegend bereits zu Zeiten des Apostels Paulus eine christliche Gemeinde hatte, flohen w\u00e4hrend der Christenverfolgungen viele oder verleugneten ihren Glauben. Neun Christen blieben jedoch standhaft, bekannten sich \u00f6ffentlich zu Christus, wurden gefangen, gefoltert und enthauptet. Die auf der Ikone abgebildeten Attribute Rad und S\u00e4ule verweisen auf die Qualen der Folter. Schon unter Konstantin dem Gro\u00dfen wurden ihnen zu Ehren eine Kirche erbaut. 1687 kamen Teile ihrer Reliquien in das in der N\u00e4he von Kazan gegr\u00fcndete Kyzikos-Kloster. Seit dieser Zeit verbreitete sich ihre Verehrung in Russland. Der hl. Dimitrij von Rostov verfasste f\u00fcr sie eine Liturgie und Ikonen wurden gemalt. Ihr Festtag ist der 29. April.<\/p>\n
A rare motif of icon-painting are the nine Martyrs of Cyzicus, who had been murdered between 284 and 294 in Cyzicus, a peninsula at the south bank of Marmara, because of their Christian Faith. Although this area had seen the spread of Christianity from the time of St. Paul’s preaching, many of the Christians fled the city during persecutions or denied their faith. But nine men boldly confessed Christ and fearlessly denounced the pagan impiety, were arested, tortured and finally beheaded by the sword. Weel and pillar on the icon are refering to their tortures. Under the rule of Constantine the Great a church was already built in their honor. In 1687 part of their relics had been brought to the monastery of Cyzicus Martyrs near Kazan. Since then their veneration spread through Russia. St. Dimitij of Rostov composed the Service to the nine Martyrs and icons had been painted.
