Darstellungen des Pfingstereignisses gehen auf die Schilderung in der Apostelgeschichte (2,1-13) zurück. Von der Anwesenheit der Mutter Jesu bei diesem „Gründungstag der Kirche“ wird nicht explizit gesprochen, doch laut Apg 1,14 war sie von Anfang an bei der Urgemeinde. Seit dem 13. Jahrhundert, gelegentlich aber schon früher, ist sie auf Pfingstbildern fast immer zu sehen. Doch wer ist die gekrönte Gestalt in der Bildmitte unten? – Es handelt sich um die Personifizierung des Kosmos, welche auf einem weißen Tuch die Textrollen mit den verschiedenen Sprachen hält, in denen die Apostel nach der Ausgiessung des Hl. Geistes geredet haben.
Depictions of Pentecost are based on the Acts of the Apostles (2,1-13). It is not mentioned if the Mother of God was present at this „Foundation-day of the church“, but -according to the Acts 1,14- she was from the beginning together with the apostles. At illustrations of Pentecost she is mostly pictured since the 13th century, sometimes also earlier. But who is the crowned figure below in the middle? – It is the personification of the cosmos, who holds a white shawl with the textrolls of the different languages, in which the apostles have spoken after the Descending of the Holy Ghost.
